Summer Camp 2012

Summer calls for cold drinks, warm weather, good friends, and last but not least, good music. Our first official playlist should at least cover the latter.

Featuring music from a variety of artists, #SUMMERCAMP2012 is our official soundtrack for the summer. The playlist covers multiple genres ranging from hip-hop to alternative to progressive house. The cohesive set of tracks will without a doubt get you through the dog days of summer with ease.

Radical Something- Step Right Up

The California collective drops off the latest song for week 8 of the trio’s #SummerofRad series. Each track just keeps getting better and better as “Step Right Up” has become my latest favorite from the fun-loving alternative hip-hop group. JOE BUSY handles the video production for Radical Something’s party banger. Tag along for the ride that is Loggy’s, Josh Cocktail’s, and Big Red’s latest track “Step Right Up.” FYI, you might get a little dizzy.

Aziz & Mike Irving- City Livin’

“City Livin'” is a certified summer jam plain and simple. The perfect combination of alternative and hip-hop makes for a real smooth-flowing, seemless track. Not to mention, the accompanying visuals match the theme of the song spot-on. The single will reside on both Aziz’s and Irving’s respective projects due out soon.

Hit-Boy- Old School Caddy (feat. Kid Cudi)

Big time producer and G.O.O.D. Music signee Hit-Boy, the mastermind behind “N*ggas In Paris” and “Drop The World,” tries his luck at rapping on “Old School Caddy,” the latest track from the California native. Clearly the beat-crafting prodigy has a spot in the rap game with his quick-spitting flow. However, the highlight of this track is Kid Cudi, whom we’ve heard very little from as of late. It’s nice to hear Cudder rapping once again.

HOODIE ALLEN- Hey Now

“Hey Now” serves as Hoodie Allen’s first release since the emcee’s sensational debut album All American, which dropped back in April. The track was originally set to reside on the album, but obviously Allen has since changed his mind, giving us his new song for free months after. “Hey Now” features the former Google employee’s signature flow over a finely crafted beat courtesy of Something Silent.

Captain Murphy- The Ritual

You may remember Captain Murphy from a track that dropped a while back entitled “Between Friends.” Music lovers ate up the track; however, many were left unsatisfied with who the mysterious feature was on the Adult Swim featured single, you guessed it, Captain Murphy. Many have surmised that the elusive individual is actually Tyler, the Creator- the Odd Future front-man. However, upon further listen to his verse on “Between Friends,” I’m not so sure.

Other guesses include MF DOOM and Aesop Rock- both of whom I’m also not so sure about. Personally, I believe its Flying Lotus, the man behind the keys on “Between Friends.” Why? Upon further listen to all three of Captain Murphy’s tracks, I noticed some nuances reminiscent of Earl Sweatshirt, who I believe ghost wrote for the legendary producer. Not to mention, Captain Murphy’s upcoming project is entitled “Duality,” further suggesting a Fly-Lo alter ego.

Yes, there is also the possibility that Captain Murphy is just Captain Murphy. Either way, it’s still fun to guess. Take a listen to the enigma’s latest track that he just dropped off today, along with “Mighty Morphin Foreskin,” Murphy’s other solo track.

50 Cent- New Day (feat. Alicia Keys & Dr. Dre)

Three legends link up for 50 Cent’s latest single off of Street King Immortal, Curtis’ latest album. Many are saying 50’s forthcoming album rivals Get Rich or Die Tryin’, if so, I can’t wait because the rapper has had very little to hang his hat on lately. Anyways, “New Day” is a certified banger- don’t sleep on it. Stream only for now.

A$AP Mob- Bath Salt

Pretty Flacko and A$AP Ant team up with Flatbush Zombies for the first single off of A$AP Mob’s collective album due out sometime soon. Each rapper goes hard, but the highlight of the track is definitely Mr. Rocky himself- fresh off bail. Take a listen.

J. Cole has finally come back from his rather long hiatus, and while “The Cure” is just a freestyle, it’s still nice to hear from one of the dopest emcees in the game. Cole takes on Ye & Jay’s “Lift Off” this time around.

Smokey Robotic- Unlike Anyone

If the artwork didn’t already tip it off, Smokey Robotic’s latest single is trippy and eccentric, to say the least. Yet, this is what we’ve come to expect from the collective, and I love it. The psychedelic rhythms and funky beats will have you nodding your head and snapping your fingers in no time at all. Here’s what the foursome had to say about their latest track…
